LONDON, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Crystal Palace's England international winger Eberechi Eze is on the verge of a move to Arsenal, after coach Oliver Glasner left him out of the squad for Palace's UEFA Conference League win over Fredrikstad on Thursday night and admitted the player had played his last game for the club.
"Ebs [Eberechi] will not play for us anymore, so it does not make sense to talk about him," he said in a post-game interview on Channel 5.
"It's gone. It looks like wishing him all the best for the new club and for us it is about bringing more players," added Glasner.
The British sporting press reported on Thursday morning that Arsenal had reached an agreement to sign Eze from Palace for around 60 million pounds (80.5 million U.S. dollars), with a further eight million pounds in incentives.
Tottenham Hotspur had looked to be in prime position to sign Eze, but Arsenal stepped in to try and close the deal amid worries that forward Kai Havertz has suffered a long-term knee injury.
27-year-old Eze began his career at Arsenal, but was released by the club at 13, moving to Fulham, Reading and then Millwall, before starting his senior career at Queens Park Rangers.
He scored 14 goals for Palace last season, including the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City. ■
