CAIRO, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Sunday wished Liverpool star Mohammed Salah a quick recovery after he suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday's European Champions League final against Real Madrid.

"My heartfelt wish for the Egyptian hero Mohammed Salah to recover from his injury. I hope he will return to stadium soon and remain a shining Egyptian star," Sisi posted on his facebook page.

25-year-old Salah had to leave the pitch in the 31st minute after a tough challenge from Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

Right after the game, which ended 3-1 in favor of Real Madrid, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told reporters that Salah's injury is "really serious", adding Salah's participation in this summer's World Cup with Egypt's national team is in doubt.

However, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on its Twitter account early on Sunday that it had contacted Liverpool's medical team to seek updates over Salah's injury.

The EFA revealed that Liverpool officials said scans showed that the injury is a sprain of the shoulder joint ligaments.

"Doctor Mohammed Aboul-Ella (Egypt's national team doctor) expressed his optimism that, according to the diagnosis, Salah will be able to play at the World Cup," the EFA said.

Meanwhile, Egyptian minister of sports, Khaled Abdel-Azizi said on Sunday the Salah needs two weeks to fully recover from his injury, adding he will be fit for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

"The simple diagnosis of Salah's injury showed that he suffers from a sprain of the shoulder joint ligaments...the estimated recovery time will be two weeks," the minister said in a statement on his facebook.

The minister affirmed that Liverpool medical staffs are in contact with their Egyptian counterparts in the Egyptian national team, adding that a copy of the injury scan was sent to the Egyptian doctors.

"The two sides agreed on the injury diagnosis as well as the recovery plan," the minister said.

Abdel-Azizi said that Salah, who scored 44 goals for the Reds this season, will remain in Liverpool until completing his treatment before joining Egypt's national team camp in Italy when he takes the green light from doctors.

"Salah will join the Egyptian national team final squad for the World Cup that will be announced on June 4," the minister stressed.

Seven-time African champions, Egypt qualified to the World Cup finals after reclaiming Africa's group E top spot of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.

This is Egypt's third World Cup appearance as the Pharaohs joined the competition in 1934 and 1990, but they have never advanced to the last 16.

Iconic Salah is seen by all Egyptians as a national hero who finally secured his country a seat in the world's top soccer competition.

Egyptians hang much hope on Salah, who was named recently the English Premier League 2018 player of the year, to help the national team advance beyond the group stage in the Russia tournament.

Salah's injury by Ramos prompted an outcry from Salah's fans, most of them Egyptians on social media.

The angry supporters took their frustration online, with many of them attacking Ramos, who was accused by the majority of fans of deliberately injuring Salah.

Anti-Ramos hashtags and comics went viral on social media networks by Egyptian users. Ramos's facebook page has also seen thousands of Egyptians slamming the Spanish defender for his "unjustified violence" on the pitch that may deprive Salah of joining the World Cup.
